Lease a Chevrolet: Programs, Taxes and Lease-End Rules (October 2026)
Vehicle Leasing and Financing Simplified
Chevrolet's national lease programs run through GM Financial, GM's own lender, so a Trax lease and a Silverado lease follow the same rules. The payment changes from model to model. The rules mostly don't. Learn them once and you can size up almost any Chevy lease offer in a couple of minutes.
This guide covers what actually moves the number on a Chevrolet lease: the programs Chevrolet runs for teachers, first responders and the military, how lease taxes work in each state AutoBandit serves, what changed for Chevy EVs after the federal credit ended, and what GM Financial charges when you hand the keys back. When you're ready to compare real numbers, the current Chevrolet lease and finance offers on AutoBandit are pre-priced by verified dealerships.

How to Read a Chevrolet Lease Offer Before You Trust the Monthly Payment
A Chevy lease ad leads with the monthly payment, but that number depends on three other numbers in the fine print: the term, the mileage allowance and the amount due at signing. Recent national Chevrolet offers we reviewed used 24-month terms, 10,000 miles a year and roughly $2,500 to $9,000 due at signing. A low payment with a big check at signing can cost more than a higher payment with little down.
The quickest way to compare two Chevy leases is the effective monthly cost: everything you pay over the lease, divided by the number of months.
Hypothetical example: a Chevy crossover advertised at $299 a month for 24 months, with $4,899 due at signing that includes the first payment. Due at signing ($4,899) plus 23 remaining payments ($6,877) equals $11,776. Divide by 24 for an effective monthly cost of about $491 a month. That is the number to compare, not $299. Taxes, registration and lease-end charges come on top.
What sets the payment on a Chevrolet lease
Capitalized cost is the vehicle's price in the lease, plus fees, minus lease cash or rebates. On AutoBandit, the dealer sets this price; AutoBandit does not negotiate it for you.
Residual value is what GM Financial expects the Chevy to be worth at lease end. You pay for the drop between cap cost and residual. Shorter terms and lower mileage usually raise the residual, which is one reason many Chevy specials run 24 months at 10,000 miles a year.
Money factor is the lease's finance charge. Multiply it by 2,400 for a rough APR equivalent: 0.00250 × 2,400 = 6.0%. Your credit tier decides which rate you qualify for. Taxes and fees are set by your state and may be paid upfront or spread over payments.
For more worked examples, see our car leasing FAQ.
Methodology: term, mileage and due-at-signing ranges come from national Chevrolet lease offers published by Chevrolet and reported by Carfax, Complete Car Lease and GM Authority in September–October 2026. The example uses those figures as a pattern only.
Leasing a Chevrolet by Model: What to Check From Trax to Tahoe
The GM Financial rules stay the same across the lineup, but each Chevy has its own quirks once you look at a lease. Use this checklist, then open the live listings for the model you want.
| Model | Type | What to check before you lease |
|---|---|---|
| Trax | Small SUV | National specials are often 24 months. Work out the effective monthly cost, because due-at-signing amounts vary a lot. |
| Trailblazer | Small SUV | Some recent national offers were loyalty-only. Check whether the advertised payment needs a current GM lease. |
| Equinox | Compact SUV | 2026 and 2027 model years overlap. Compare both; programs and residuals can differ by model year. |
| Blazer | Midsize SUV | Look at the listed price against MSRP; that gap feeds straight into the cap cost. |
| Traverse | 3-row SUV | Family haulers rack up miles. Price out 12,000 or 15,000 miles a year rather than paying overage later. |
| Tahoe / Suburban | Full-size SUV | On a high price, a small change in money factor moves the payment a lot. Ask which rate tier you were quoted. |
| Colorado | Midsize pickup | Lease cash has applied to specific trims and packages, so confirm the exact trim matches the offer. |
| Silverado 1500 | Full-size pickup | Incentives differ by engine (TurboMax, 5.3L V8, 3.0L Duramax diesel). Same trim, different engine, different deal. |
| Silverado 2500HD | Heavy-duty pickup | Lifts, racks and other modifications can count as excess wear at turn-in. Plan upfits before you sign. |
| Corvette | Sports car | Excluded from the Chevrolet Military Program in recent disclosures. Low mileage caps matter if it’s a weekend car. |
| Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Silverado EV, Bolt | Electric | No federal credit since Oct. 2025. See the EV section below. |

Chevrolet Lease Incentives and Special Programs
Chevrolet incentives come in two kinds. Some are open to anyone who qualifies for the lease, like lease cash on a certain trim. Others depend on who you are: your job, military service, or the car already in your driveway. The second kind is where people often leave money on the table because nobody asked.
| Program | Who it’s for | How it shows up on a lease | Where to confirm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lease cash | Anyone leasing a qualifying model and trim through GM Financial | Lowers the cap cost; often tied to a specific trim, engine or region | Offer disclosure |
| GM lease loyalty | Current GM lessees, sometimes limited to newer model years | Extra cash off when you lease another GM vehicle | Offer disclosure; your current lease |
| GM lease conquest | Current lessees of certain non-GM brands | Extra cash off for switching to GM | Offer disclosure |
| Early lease termination (pull-ahead) | Eligible current Chevrolet lessees with GM Financial | Chevrolet covers some remaining payments on your old lease, up to four in recent offers | Dealer; GM Financial |
| Chevrolet Military Program | Active duty, Reservists, National Guard, veterans and retirees; spouses can be sponsored | Bonus cash, recently $500 to $1,000; Corvette excluded | chevrolet.com/special-offers |
| Chevrolet First Responder Program | Firefighters, police officers, EMTs/paramedics and 911 dispatchers | Bonus cash on select models | chevrolet.com/special-offers |
| Chevrolet Educator Program | Employees of public or private schools, colleges and universities | Bonus cash on select models | chevrolet.com/special-offers |
| GM Employee and Supplier pricing | GM employees, eligible family members and GM suppliers | Discounted price, sometimes with a lower due-at-signing | Your employer program |
| GM Accessibility Program | Drivers who install adaptive equipment | Allowance toward qualifying equipment | Dealer; GM |
Four things that trip people up with Chevy programs
- Get an authorization number before delivery. Military, first responder and educator programs ask you to verify eligibility and bring the number to the dealer before taking the car.
- Not every program stacks. A loyalty offer and bonus-cash offer may or may not combine on the same Chevy.
- Public employees may be restricted. Government gift rules may limit what police, firefighters and teachers can accept.
- Some offers target one model. Chevrolet added a Costco member incentive on the 2027 Bolt in June 2026; offers like this come and go.
Whether a program is reflected in an AutoBandit price depends on that listing. AutoBandit asks a few simple incentive questions when you set up a deal, and each offer shows what is included. Dealers set their own prices, and AutoBandit does not negotiate on your behalf.

Leasing a Chevy EV in 2026: Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Silverado EV and Bolt
If you remember Chevy EV leases from 2024 looking almost too cheap, there was a reason. Leasing companies could claim a federal commercial clean-vehicle credit of up to $7,500 and pass some of it into the payment. That credit (Section 45W), and the $7,500 consumer credit (Section 30D), are gone for any vehicle acquired after September 30, 2025, according to the IRS. A few websites still say the 2026 Equinox EV qualifies. It does not.
What replaced it is Chevrolet's own money: lease cash, loyalty and conquest cash, and special lease rates through GM Financial. In September 2026, national programs offered up to $1,000 in loyalty or conquest cash on certain 2027 Equinox EV trims. These change monthly, so check the current offer rather than an old article.
- The home-charger tax credit is gone too. Section 30C does not apply to equipment placed in service after June 30, 2026. Budget for a Level 2 charger and installation unless your utility offers a rebate.
- Residual values vary substantially. CarsDirect reported a 41% 36-month residual when the 2027 Bolt launched, briefly making it cost more to lease than the larger Equinox EV. Compare effective monthly cost, not sticker price.
- State taxes and fees still apply. New Jersey EVs have paid the full 6.625% since July 1, 2025. Maryland adds an annual EV and plug-in-hybrid registration surcharge.
- State rebates may remain. Programs such as New Jersey's Charge Up have offered point-of-sale lease rebates, subject to funding and caps. Confirm a program is open before counting on it.
- The battery warranty outlasts the lease. Chevrolet covers EV battery components for 8 years or 100,000 miles.

Chevrolet Lease Taxes in Every State AutoBandit Serves
The same Chevy lease can cost hundreds of dollars more in one state than the next. States generally tax each payment, tax the total of payments upfront, or tax the vehicle's full price when it is titled.
| State | How a lease is taxed | State rate | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| California | Each payment | 7.25% + local | Combined rates differ by city and county |
| Connecticut | Each payment | 6.35% | 7.75% on vehicles priced over $50,000 |
| Florida | Each payment | 6% + county surtax | Cash down is taxed too |
| Illinois | Each payment | 6.25% + local | Illinois moved to taxing lease payments in 2015; older guides say otherwise |
| Indiana | Each payment | 7% | No local sales tax |
| Maryland | Full vehicle price | 6.5% excise | Up from 6% on July 1, 2025 |
| Michigan | Each payment | 6% | No local sales tax |
| Minnesota | Total of payments, upfront | 6.875% + local | Collected on the total lease price |
| Missouri | Usually each payment | 4.225% + local | Local rates can add several points |
| New Jersey | Total of payments, upfront | 6.625% | EVs pay the full rate since July 1, 2025 |
| New York | Total of payments, upfront | 4% + local | Up to 8.875% combined in New York City |
| Ohio | Total of payments, upfront | 5.75% + county | County rates vary |
| Pennsylvania | Each payment | 6% + 3% lease tax | 10% in Allegheny County, 11% in Philadelphia |
| Texas | Full vehicle price | 6.25% | Paid by the lessor at titling and passed into the lease |
| Virginia | Full vehicle price | 4.15% | Motor vehicle sales and use tax, paid at titling |
| Wisconsin | Usually each payment | 5% + county | County tax applies in most counties |
A quick comparison: on a $400 monthly payment over 36 months ($14,400 total) at 6%, an each-payment state collects $24 monthly; an upfront state assesses about $864 at signing or rolls it in; and a full-price state assesses $2,400 on a $40,000 Chevy even though you use only part of its value.
Methodology: published state guidance as of October 4, 2026. Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Maryland and New Jersey were confirmed with their respective revenue, motor vehicle or taxation agencies. Local rates change. This is general education, not tax advice; your lease disclosure controls.

Laws That Protect You When You Lease a Chevrolet
A consumer car lease is not just a contract between you and GM Financial. Federal and state law decide what must be disclosed and what you can be charged.
Federal disclosure rules. The Consumer Leasing Act and CFPB Regulation M (12 CFR Part 1013) require written disclosures before you sign, including the amount due at signing, payment schedule and total, mileage allowance and per-mile charge, purchase-option price, and early-termination calculation. Ads quoting a lease payment must also show key terms. Very expensive leases above an inflation-adjusted limit can fall outside these rules, so read a high-end Tahoe or Suburban lease especially carefully.
Lemon laws. State lemon laws protect drivers of new vehicles with repeated, unfixed defects, and many include leased vehicles. Keep every repair order and contact your state attorney general's consumer office if the same warranty problem returns.
Early termination. Ending early usually means paying the gap between what you owe and the vehicle's value, plus fees. Before terminating, ask whether a Chevrolet pull-ahead program covers some remaining payments.
Continuing responsibilities. GM Financial notes that lessees remain liable for tolls, tickets, property tax and fees assessed during the lease. Annual personal property tax may arrive even though the lessor holds title.
A tax break that does not apply. The federal deduction for interest on new-car loans covers loans on vehicles you buy. Leases are not eligible.

Ending a Chevy Lease With GM Financial: A Month-by-Month Plan
Most lease-end surprises come from leaving things to the last week. Here is when to act.
Four months out: book the free inspection. GM Financial offers a complimentary pre-return inspection through OPENLANE and suggests doing it two to four months before lease end, leaving time to fix chargeable items.
Three months out: compare your options. Return the Chevy, buy it at the contract's purchase-option price, or lease or buy another new vehicle. Compare market value with the buyout; if the car is worth more, you may have equity.
Two months out: fix what is cheaper yourself. GM Financial identifies excess wear including a dent over 4 inches, scratch of 6 inches or more on a panel, four or more dings per panel, cracked glass of at least half an inch, upholstery holes over 1/8 inch, tears over half an inch and permanent stains.
One month out: gather both keys, owner's manual, floor mats and everything else that came with the vehicle. On turn-in day: get a signed odometer statement and receipt and retain them until the final bill is settled.
What you might owe at turn-in
- Disposition fee: up to $395. It may be waived if you buy or lease another new GM vehicle and is not charged if you buy your Chevy.
- Excess mileage: recent dealer disclosures showed $0.15 to $0.25 a mile; your contract has your rate.
- Excess wear: another new GM vehicle may qualify you for a partial waiver. My GM Rewards points may also apply to wear or mileage charges.
Optional protection. Chevrolet's XS Wear Lease Protection, purchased when signing, waives covered wear up to $5,000 (with a $1,000 per-item cap) and up to $400 in excess mileage. It does not cover modifications or damage that should go through insurance.

Chevrolet Lease FAQ
Can I lease a Chevrolet near me through AutoBandit?
If you live in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia or Wisconsin, yes. Enter your ZIP code on the AutoBandit homepage to see Chevrolet offers from verified dealerships in your area. Prices depend on location and credit tier.
Is it better to lease or buy a Chevrolet?
Leasing usually suits drivers who want a lower payment, a new Chevy every two or three years and predictable mileage. Buying tends to win if you drive a lot, keep cars a long time or plan to modify a truck. Compare effective monthly cost against the total cost of a loan over the same period.
Can I lease a used Chevrolet on AutoBandit?
No. Dealers on AutoBandit list new vehicles only.
What credit score do I need to lease a Chevy?
GM Financial does not publish a minimum. Advertised payments usually assume top-tier credit, and a lower tier means a higher money factor. AutoBandit asks for your credit tier up front so prices match it.
How many miles a year should I choose?
Many national Chevy specials assume 10,000 miles a year. If you drive more, pick a higher allowance at signing. Upfront miles are generally cheaper than paying $0.15 to $0.25 for each extra mile at turn-in.
Can I buy my Chevrolet at the end of the lease?
Yes. Your contract lists a purchase-option price. GM Financial says a buyout avoids disposition, mileage and wear charges, and you can finance it with a loan.
Do Chevy EV leases still get the $7,500 tax credit?
No. The federal credit ended for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. Current Chevy EV lease deals rely on Chevrolet incentives and any state programs.
Can I transfer my Chevrolet lease to someone else?
This depends on GM Financial's current policy and your state. Ask GM Financial directly before listing your lease anywhere.
