Vehicle Leasing and Financing Simplified
Lease a Jeep: Costs, Incentives, Taxes and Lease-End Rules Explained
Last reviewed: September 26, 2026
A Jeep is one of the easier vehicles to lease well and one of the easier ones to lease badly. Wranglers and Gladiators hold their value, which helps the monthly payment. But Jeep drivers also rack up miles, bolt on lifts and bigger tires, and take their vehicles places a leasing company would rather they didn't. All of that shows up on the bill when the lease ends.
This guide covers what actually moves the price when you lease a Jeep in 2026: which models lease best, the incentives Jeep and Stellantis currently offer, how your state taxes the deal, and what happens when you hand the keys back. Live prices from dealers in your area are listed below. Enter your ZIP code and credit tier and every payment you see already includes the incentives you qualify for.

Jeep Lease Cheat Sheet: What Matters in 2026
Before you compare offers, it helps to know the fixed rules of the game. These are the facts that apply to almost every Jeep lease in the US right now.
| What you need to know | The short answer | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Who writes most Jeep leases | Stellantis Financial Services (SFS), Jeep's captive lender. Manufacturer lease specials usually require financing through SFS. | Stellantis Financial Services |

| Federal $7,500 EV lease credit | Gone. No federal clean vehicle credit applies to vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025, including leased ones. | IRS |
| National bonus programs | $500 Military Bonus Cash and $500 First Responders Bonus Cash on select 2026 and 2025 models; up to $1,000 DriveAbility reimbursement | Jeep.com National Incentives |
| Turn-in (disposition) fee | Set by your contract. SFS waives it if you lease or finance another new Stellantis vehicle through SFS. | SFS lease-end guide |
| Loyalty wear allowance | SFS waives up to $500 of excess wear for customers who get another new Stellantis vehicle through SFS within 90 days of returning the lease. | SFS lease-end guide |
| Sales tax timing | Most states tax each monthly payment. New York and New Jersey collect tax up front on the total of your lease payments. | NY Tax Law §1111(i); NJ Division of Taxation |
How we compiled this: AutoBandit's team checked each item against the official source listed on the review date at the top of this page. Incentives change monthly and vary by region, so the payment on any deal page is the number to trust for your ZIP code.
Which Jeep Leases Well? A Model-by-Model Look
A lease payment is mostly depreciation: the gap between what the Jeep costs today and what the lender expects it to be worth at the end (the residual value). Models that hold value, and models carrying big manufacturer cash, tend to produce the best payments. Here's how each Jeep stacks up from a leasing point of view.
Jeep Wrangler. The Wrangler's resale value is a big part of its appeal on a lease. Data from Lease End shows Wrangler lease buyouts in 2025 carried positive equity of about $2,397 on average, meaning the Jeep was worth more than the contract's buyout price. The flip side: the same data found Wrangler lessees averaged 44,740 miles on a 36,000-mile lease. If you plan weekend trips, price a 12,000- or 15,000-mile lease from day one. See current offers to lease a Jeep Wrangler.
Jeep Gladiator. The only Jeep pickup shares the Wrangler's strong resale reputation, and independent tracker RealCarTips rated both among Jeep's best lease values in its most recent monthly review. Bed liners are worth the money here, since scratched and dented beds are a common wear charge on returned trucks. See Gladiator lease offers.
Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L. Updated for 2026, the Grand Cherokee is often where Jeep puts its biggest cash. In September 2026, TrueCar listed it with the largest cash offer in the Jeep lineup. Choose the two-row Grand Cherokee if you rarely need the third row; the L costs more, and that extra cost flows straight into the payment. Lease a Jeep Grand Cherokee or compare Grand Cherokee L deals.
Jeep Cherokee. The Cherokee returned for the 2026 model year as a new hybrid. Brand-new models can see incentive levels shift in their first year or two, so check offers monthly rather than assuming last month's price still holds. See Cherokee lease offers.
Jeep Compass. The smallest Jeep and usually the lowest entry price in the lineup. A good fit for city driving and first-time lessees. See Compass lease offers.
Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. Now sold under the Jeep name, these are the brand's full-size luxury SUVs. The 2026 Grand Wagoneer starts around $64,000 and tops out near $100,000 before destination. On a vehicle this expensive, the money factor (the lease's interest rate) matters as much as the discount, so compare both. See Grand Wagoneer lease offers.
Recon and Wagoneer S (electric). The Recon is Jeep's new trail-rated EV, starting at $65,000 plus a $1,995 destination charge, with up to about 250 miles of range. The Wagoneer S skipped the 2026 model year, and remaining 2025 units have carried some of Jeep's largest rebates. For either one, a lease makes a lot of sense: nobody knows yet what a three-year-old Jeep EV will be worth, and on a lease that's the lender's problem, not yours.
Jeep Incentives and Programs You Can Use on a Lease
Jeep's incentives fall into four buckets. Some stack; some don't. The dealer's worksheet should list each one by name, so you can check nothing got left off.
Manufacturer lease specials and bonus cash
Every month, Jeep publishes national and regional offers: advertised lease payments, lease cash, bonus cash and trade-in bonuses. These are tied to specific model years and trims, and they usually require an SFS lease. Advertised payments also assume a specific down payment and annual mileage, so read the fine print before comparing an ad with a real quote. AutoBandit's deal pages apply the current programs for your ZIP code automatically.
Programs for specific groups
- Military Bonus Cash: $500. For active duty, active reserve, retired military, retired reserve, 100% disabled veterans, and veterans within 12 months of honorable discharge. It applies to purchases and leases on select 2026 and 2025 Jeep models. Eligibility is confirmed through a third-party verification service, which issues an authorization number for the dealer.
- First Responders Bonus Cash: $500. For law enforcement, fire and medical responders, on select 2026 and 2025 models, verified the same way.
- Affiliate Rewards. Employees of Stellantis partner and supplier companies can get pricing of 1% below dealer invoice, plus current incentives. You need your company code.
- DriveAbility. If you have a permanent disability, Stellantis reimburses up to $1,000 toward adaptive driving or passenger equipment installed on a new vehicle.

A note for service members: the federal Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) can let active-duty lessees end a lease early without an early-termination penalty in certain situations, such as deployment or a qualifying change of station. SFS explains how to request this in its legal notices.
Loyalty perks when your current lease ends
If you're already in a Stellantis lease, staying in the family has a concrete value. SFS waives the turn-in fee when you lease or finance a new Stellantis vehicle through SFS, and it waives up to $500 of excess wear if you do so within 90 days of returning your lease. Some months, Jeep also runs separate lease loyalty or conquest cash; those programs vary by region and change often.
EV and plug-in incentives after the federal credit ended
Until September 30, 2025, lenders could claim a $7,500 federal credit on leased EVs and pass it on as a discount. That credit is gone: the IRS confirms that clean vehicle credits aren't available for vehicles acquired after that date. If a quote still mentions it, ask for a new one.
State programs are what's left, and the fine print matters for Jeep:
- New York: Drive Clean Rebate. A point-of-sale rebate of $500 to $2,000, available on leases of 36 months or longer. Plug-in models priced above $42,000 get a flat $500, which covers every Jeep plug-in that appears on NYSERDA's eligible list.
- New Jersey: Charge Up New Jersey. Currently limited to new battery-electric vehicles with an MSRP up to $55,000. Plug-in hybrids don't qualify, and the Recon and Wagoneer S are priced above the cap, so in practice no current Jeep qualifies.
Taxes, Fees and State Rules on a Jeep Lease
Tax is where two identical Jeep leases in two different states can end up hundreds or thousands of dollars apart.
How states tax a lease
Most states charge sales tax on each monthly payment, so the tax simply becomes part of your payment. A handful do it differently. New York and New Jersey charge tax on the total of all your lease payments at signing. A few other states, Texas among them, base the tax on the vehicle's price rather than your payments. You can pay upfront tax in cash or roll it into the lease, but rolling it in means you pay rent charges on it.
New York
- Sales tax on a lease of a year or more is due at lease inception on all payments for the full term (NY Tax Law §1111(i)).
- The rate depends on where the Jeep is garaged: 8.875% across New York City, 8.625% in Nassau and Suffolk.
- If you take over someone else's lease, New York treats it as a new taxable transaction on the remaining payments.
New Jersey
- Sales tax is 6.625%, collected up front on the total lease payments for any lease longer than six months.
- Manufacturer rebates applied to the lease and acquisition (bank) fees are included in the taxable amount, according to the New Jersey Division of Taxation's Consumer Automotive Tax Guide. A trade-in reduces it.
- The Luxury and Fuel-Inefficient Vehicle Surcharge adds a one-time 0.4% on new vehicles with a lease price of $45,000 or more, or an EPA combined rating under 19 mpg. Many Jeep trims cross the price line.
- EVs lost their New Jersey sales-tax exemption on July 1, 2025, and battery-electric vehicles now pay an annual zero-emission vehicle registration fee ($270 for July 2026 to June 2027).
Everywhere else
Ask the dealer to show sales tax, registration and doc fees as separate lines. AutoBandit also has state guides for New York and New Jersey leasing if you want the full local picture.
Inside a Jeep Lease Quote: A Worked Example
Here's how a lease payment is built, using round numbers. This is an illustration, not an offer. Real residuals, money factors and fees come from SFS each month and depend on trim, term, mileage and credit tier.
| Line item | Example |
|---|---|
| MSRP | $50,000 |
| Negotiated selling price | $47,500 |
| Lease cash applied | −$2,000 |
| Acquisition fee (example amount) | +$695 |
| Adjusted capitalized cost | $46,195 |
| Residual value (58% of MSRP, 36 months) | $29,000 |
| Money factor | 0.00250 (about 6% APR) |
| Monthly depreciation: ($46,195 − $29,000) ÷ 36 | $477.64 |
| Monthly rent charge: ($46,195 + $29,000) × 0.00250 | $187.99 |
| Base monthly payment, before tax | $665.63 |
What the same lease costs in tax, depending on where you live:
- A state that taxes monthly at 7%: about $712 a month, with tax paid as you go.
- New Jersey: about $1,588 tax on the payments plus $132.50 tax on the $2,000 lease cash, roughly $1,720 due at signing (or rolled in). The 0.4% surcharge adds about $190, because the $47,500 lease price is over $45,000.
- New York City: about $2,127 due at signing on $23,963 of total payments (8.875%).
Methodology: payment formula per standard lease math (depreciation + rent charge). NJ tax base per the NJ Division of Taxation's total-lease-payments method; NY per Tax Law §1111(i). Figures rounded.
Before You Take a Leased Jeep Off-Road
You can absolutely take a leased Jeep on the trail. It was built for that. Just remember that at the end of the lease, the vehicle goes back to the lender, and they inspect it.
- Modifications. Lift kits, bigger tires, aftermarket bumpers and winches are usually allowed while you drive, but anything that isn't returned to stock, or that caused damage, can be charged at turn-in. Keep the original parts. Also, if an aftermarket part causes a failure, a warranty claim for that repair can be denied.
- Trail wear. Branch scratches along the sides (the "trail pinstriping" every off-roader knows), rock rash on the rocker panels, and cracked lights all count toward excess wear. SFS has a free Excess Wear Estimator on its website. Run through it before your inspection, not after.
- Doors, tops and removable parts. Doors, hardtop panels, soft tops and their bags and fasteners all need to come back with the Jeep. Store them carefully, since a torn soft top or a missing panel is an easy charge to avoid.
- Accessories. If you want Mopar accessories from day one, ask whether the dealer can include them in the lease. Adding them at signing spreads the cost over the term instead of paying out of pocket.
- Miles. Buying extra miles at signing almost always costs less per mile than paying the excess mileage charge at the end. Look at last year's odometer readings and be honest with yourself.
The End of a Jeep Lease: A 180-Day Countdown
Stellantis Financial Services lays out its lease-end process in stages, and knowing the timeline helps you avoid rushed decisions. Source: SFS End-of-Lease Experience guide.
- 180 days out: SFS mails your end-of-lease package.
- 120 days out: the SFS lease team contacts you about options and current incentives. Good time to test drive whatever's next.
- 90 days out: decide. You can lease or finance a new vehicle, buy your current Jeep, or return it to any Stellantis dealer.
- 60 days out: reread your contract for your mileage allowance and per-mile charge, and fix any damage that would cost more at inspection than at a body shop.
- 30 days out: tell SFS your plan. If you're buying the Jeep, request a payoff quote from SFS Customer Care.
Should you buy it out? Check the buyout price against what similar Jeeps sell for. Given how well Wranglers and Gladiators hold value, a buyout can come out ahead, especially if you're over your miles.
Finding a Jeep Lease Near You
Searching "Jeep lease near me" usually turns up one dealer's inventory at a time. Local offers aren't national, though. Jeep's regional incentives, your state's tax rules and each dealer's discount all change the final number.
AutoBandit lists upfront lease and finance offers from franchise Jeep dealers, based on your ZIP code and credit tier, so you can compare several dealers side by side instead of calling each one. Dealers on our platform offer new vehicles only. When you find a Jeep you like, you choose your term, mileage and down payment, apply the incentives you qualify for, and the price you see is the price you pay. Jeep Leasing FAQ
What credit score do I need to lease a Jeep?
There's no single cutoff. Advertised Jeep lease specials are usually priced for top-tier credit, and lower tiers pay a higher money factor. Credit tiers depend on the lender and the rest of your application.
Can I lease a Jeep with no money down?
Yes, many Jeep leases can be structured with $0 down, which just means the upfront amounts get spread into the monthly payment. Keeping money down low is often smart, because a down payment isn't returned if the vehicle is totaled or stolen early in the lease.
Is the $7,500 EV tax credit still available if I lease a Jeep Recon or Wagoneer S?
No. The federal credit ended for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. Any EV discount today comes from Jeep's own incentives or a state program.
Can I modify a leased Jeep Wrangler?
You can, but keep the factory parts and plan to reinstall them. Modifications that can't be reversed, or that cause damage, can be billed when you return the vehicle.
Can I negotiate a Jeep lease?
Yes. The selling price, add-ons and sometimes the money factor markup are negotiable. The residual value is set by the lender.
What happens if I return my Jeep lease early?
You'll usually owe early termination charges set out in your contract, which can be large. A buyout or a lease transfer (where allowed) is often cheaper. Active-duty service members may have SCRA protections.
